a is for armadillo

As is probably very well evident by this point, I adore alphabets. I love thinking through themed alphabets, I love reading children's alphabet books, and I especially love making artwork based on alphabets. And, it's because of this deep adoration for the humble ABCs that I found myself starting yet another alphabet project. And, while I won't be able to keep up with a consistent blog series of these illustrations, running straight from A to Z, I will post them as I finish them, with other various postings thrown in between for good measure.

So, for now, here's this sleepy little armadillo. The background reminds me of Arizona. I like thinking that he's hanging out somewhere amongst the red rocks of Sedona. I know that's where I'd like to be right now, so I figure he'd be pretty happy there too.

He makes me miss Florida! They were all over the place down there... we even had a family of them that liked to hang out in our garden. They're so cute and weird. :)

What is this alphabets theme going to be? Animals? You know what I was thinking of? Did you ever read that kids series of Alphabet books where they all lived in a house shaped like their own letter, like Icabod lived in a giant I and loved ice. I never read them all because the library only had a few but I thought the library village was adorable!

The red color also reminds me of the armadillo cake from "Steel Magnolias!"
