I spend a lot of time
with kids and thinking up art projects
for kids these days. And, thus, it's no surprise that I am finding myself inspired
by kids as well. Over the past two weeks, the students in my illustration workshop have been creating monsters, influenced by Maurice Sendak's "Where the Wild Things Are." Like many adults, this book was a part of my childhood. But, somehow, its beauty and creativity were forgotten over the years as seemingly more important thoughts took up residence in my brain. In planning the projects for my illustration workshop, however, I returned to this classic. The kids seemed inspired. They produced creative, fascinating, detailed monsters. And, I, in turn was inspired by the enthusiasm and carefree whimsy that they brought to this project. I like how creativity and inspiration have a way of coming full circle.
