autumn alphabet: j is for jumping in leaves

I haven't jumped into a gigantic pile of leaves since I was a little kid. But, I can say with definite certainty that Fall brings out that childlike desire in me. So, what's the appeal of this playful feat? For me, at least, I think it's the ability to surround oneself in a sea of color that looks like Fall and smells like Fall and best of all, sounds like Fall. There, in a humble pile of fallen leaves, lies a secret wonderland for the senses that places you right in the midst of all that the season has to offer. It's a marvelous thing...one that, perhaps, can't really be appreciated until a person is past the "proper" age for leaf jumping.

But, I think I'd best be going. I have a giant pile of leaves to find...

Woo hoo!!! I love this entry! I'd almost forgotten about this thing I love to do. I haven't done it in so long, probably because I've been at school working these past few years. This reminded me, too, of this time freshman year when I was telling a friend of mine that I wanted to jump in the leaves again but there was nowhere on campus to do it. His response to me was, "Alyssa, that's how people get bitten by spiders!" or something along those lines. But ya know what. I've never been bitten by a spider jumping in the leaves. Are those the kind of thoughts most adults have, which prevent them from giving in to childish fun? I wonder...

Great post! Yeah!
