w is for wedding invitations

Even if I weren't planning my own wedding, I think that I'd be hard-pressed to not use wedding invitations as my source of inspiration for "W." For years I've been perusing bridal magazines, thinking of ideas for receptions and imagining extravagantly designed invitations in my mind. The truth is that the invitations were always the things that really captivated me. Until about 5 months ago, when I was absolutely forced to, I had given little thought to the type of dress that I would want to wear. The dresses, the flowers, the rings, the cake...they all took a back seat to the invitation. The way I see it, the invitation sets the stage for the entire event. The colors, the style, the materials....they all give the first glimpse into the magic and allure of a wedding day. There is definitely something exciting about opening one's mailbox and finding an extravagant wedding invitation inside.

If, one day, I could make wedding invitations all day long, I think I would find myself extremely content. Perhaps I would tire of it eventually. But, at this moment, I can imagine nothing more suited to me.

There is something magical and special about weddings. I see them more through the eyes of a hopeless romantic than through the eyes of a wedding invitation designer. But I never had the real appreciation of them until we began talking about them. All these years I have been going to weddings and I must have missed so much by not being aware of the significance of the wedding invitation style!

I love this! Maybe it'll make me pay attention to those seemingly "little" details more! :-)

YAY! I LOVE your wedding invitations! I adored my thick, creamy colored envelopes for my wedding, but your design is so beautiful and unique! I love that it's your own and respresents you and Dan and nobody else.

You're doing such a great job picking out everything, Heather! I know how confusing and daunting it can be (and how slowly it seems to go at times).

It's nice to see you both know what you want. You are making it your day, and that's the point really! How special.

Congrats! Wedding invites are fantastic. I have recently undertaken the project of paring down my mountain of collected letters and cards from, well, my entire life, and I've found that I have been keeping all the wedding invites, bc they are so different and interesting [even some of the cheesy cliche ones]. And bc I too think it would be neat to design wedding invites for a living. In fact, I think I wrote something about it in my "five year plan" in Cora Lynn's Sr Proj...
Speaking of Illustration at UConn, the reason I popped on here, was that I wasn't sure if you'd been in the Illustration Alum message boards recently [or at all], as they are kicking around some awesome ideas to do an alumni show. Do take a peek, as it would be a great venue for you, esp as you near the end of the alphabet!
